- Don`t know if this helps but worth a look ,http://www.woodworking-heaven.flowerpotheaven.com/baby-cradle-plans.shtml
- I would be very careful in building it. There are regulations out there. If you want to build something for a nap, you still need sides on it so he cannot roll out onto the floor. I would consider taking a crib mattress and laying it on a piece of plywood with very small legs on it. Even the sides, top and bottom cannot have rails that are over a certain width in between them. He will grow very quickly in the next 2 years, so make him a twin bed to regulations. Of course, now if you want him to have real fun, get him one of those little tents and put your sleeping bag next to his, pillows and teddy bears. But stay safe.
- If you have the skills, and equipment to build a baby cot, my recommendations, is to design one for your self. Your child is still young enough, to reuse the baby crip mattress and spring assembly, and build a Headboard, and footboard that will incorporatate the mattress/spring assy. A "cot" is not a crib, so concerns expressed by other "answerers" do not apply. Just use common sense. Look at any bed configuration, and apply the features to you child's cot. I've built many such pieces for my clients, and regardless of the designs I've been given by my clients, the basic configurations, is still just a headboard, footboard, and depending upon the foundation of the mattress/spring assy, you may need to fit the unit with side rails, connecting the headboard to the footboard. Use your imagination, make it your design, and your project
